Affiliated Clubs and Groups

While not a definitive list, here is a selection of clubs and groups that are involved in a range of cycling, walking & trailmaking activities in Northland.

Cycling Clubs & Groups

E-Bike Riders

A Whangarei based group for e-bikers wanting to connect with others and explore the region whilst enjoying some company. Message other riders via their Facebook page, EB Riders – Whangarei.


Kaipara Cycling Inc

Kaipara Cycling Inc. is the community-driven organisation behind the development of the Kauri
Coast Mountain Bike Park in Bayleys forest 12km from Dargaville. The organisation aims to provide a safe and accessible all-weather facility for riders of all skill levels, from beginners to experts. In addition Kaipara Cycling continues to foster a vibrant riding community centered around the Pou tu o Te Rangi
Mountain Bike Park at Harding Park in Dargaville, a dedicated space for everyone from balance-bike toddlers to beginner adults. For junior development, the club offers specialized coaching and holiday programs focusing on fundamental skills. E-bike riders and fitness enthusiasts are catered for with regular weekly rides either on the road, gravel roads or the Kaihu Valley Trail. Kerikeri Mountain Bike Club

A very active group of enthusiastic mountain bikers, the Kerikeri MTB Club has been growing dramatically over the past few years. They have tracks in the Waitangi Forest and more recently the Whitehills Forest. Both these are working forests, so access restrictions must be adhered to. Check out the club website or Facebook page for updates. The club runs regular rides every week year-round and hosts working bees for trail development and maintenance most months.


Muddy Misses Whangarei

An informal group started as a place to connect with other like-minded ladies who like to ride. They aim to ride every couple of weeks. Follow their Facebook page for the latest plans. Muddy Misses Whangarei


Parafed Northland

A not-for-profit team striving for inclusive sport and recreation for Northlanders. Parafed Northland wants to increase awareness and profile of disability sports in the community. They offer a huge range of activities for their members. Check out their Facebook page for the latest updates and their website for further information.


Whangarei BMX Club

Whangarei BMX Club is based in the center of town at 109, Dave Culham Drive, Pohe Island Bike Park. The club has regular club nights in spring and summer and Sprocket training nights once a week. Check out their Facebook page for the latest days and times.


Whangarei Marsden Wheelers

Whangarei Marsden Wheelers is the local road cycling club. The club is friendly and open to new members. Beginner riders, young or old, will find the club has a wealth of experience to share, and there’s plenty to challenge the more experienced and competitive riders too! The club have regular Sunday rides meeting at McKay Stadium in Kensington as well as a full calendar of road and gravel events. Whangarei Mountain Bike Club

Whangarei has two main mountain bike parks: Parihaka and Glenbervie. Parihaka is the officially designated park. Both parks offer trails for cross-country, freeride, and downhill. The Whangarei Mountain Bike Club is thriving, with membership steadily growing. The club holds regular working bees, evening group rides, and social events, including cross-country and enduro events. Whare Bike

Whangarei’s open cycle workshop helps to give bikes a new life. Whare Bike is run by volunteers who all enjoy ‘fixing bikes.’ They are now located at the Bike Park off Dave Culham Drive in Whangarei. Whare Bike are open the first and third Sunday of each month from 1pm. If you are interested in joining Whare or volunteering your time please contact them at wharebike@gmail.com
