Cycle skills training was part of the Northland Hip Hop Dance Holiday Programme being run at Whangarei Intermediate this week. Kevin and Gwen from Sport Northland were at the school with our trailer load of bikes teaching the kids how to ride safely. There was lots of laughter and smiles as the kids navigated cones, and corners. They had to drop balls into baskets to learn how to ride with one hand. By identifying coloured card held behind them they were learning how to check for traffic. And zig-zagging through the school grounds and obstacles helped them learn to control their bikes in tight spaces. The big trees on the grounds provided welcome shade on the hot days, and I think all the kids were looking forward to a swim at the end of the day!
