Huarahi o te Whai, Hatea Loop


Trail Description

Huarahio te Whai, Hatea Loop, is a 5.1 km shared path loop in the center of Whangarei. It is an easy path that is surfaced all the way round. The loop crosses three bridges and passes the iconic Hundertwasser Art Centre, numerous cafes and souvenir shops, playgrounds, a skate park, and a BMX track.



Not sure—have a read of this guide on shared path etiquette:

  • Time: 20-60 minute depending on the ability and age of riders
  • Surface: Concrete, smooth
  • Suitable for: All bike types
  • Amenities: There are several toilets along the loop, drinking fountains, and playgrounds.
  • This is a shared path; please keep left at all times, your speed down and make pedestrians aware of you as you approach from behind.

  • Time: 1.5-2 hours depending on your walking pace
  • Surface: Concrete, smooth
  • Suitable for kids, scooters, prams, wheelchairs, dogs on leash.
  • Amenities: There are several toilets along the loop, drinking fountains, and playgrounds.
  • This is a shared path; please keep left at all times and shorten the leash when cyclists approach.
