Route Description

Waimahanga Track runs between the Onerahi foreshore and Waimahanga. It runs through an intertidal zone dominated by mangroves. The track is approximately 2.5 km and has a gravel surface and is suitable for biking.
There is car parking at either end. Alternatively, you can link in to the Hatea Loop track via the Onerahi shared path. You can start at the southern end at the Onerahi Yacht Club, where there is plenty of parking by the playground, or at one of the many car parks along the Hatea loop. Incorporating the Onerahi shared path, Waimahanga track and Hatea loop together makes an easy 18 km grade 2 ride.
Distance: 2.5 km one way, up to 18 km if combined with the Hatea loop.
Surface: Gravel (and concrete if you combine with the Hatea Loop).
Time: 30 minutes – 2 hours depending on how far you go.
Suitable for: bikes and sturdy prams (a bit bumpy for scooters).
Level: Easy
Amenities: The closest toilets are at the Southern end at the playground on Beach Road
Note: This is a popular shared path with lots of walkers and joggers, please keep left and be considerate when passing.
