Awards in 2022

Bike Northland featured in two Northland Award programmes early in 2022, The Northland Business Awards and Community Impact Award.

The Northland Business Awards are held annually and provide an opportunity for entrants to run a comprehensive ‘health check’ of their operations using a framework underpinned by the internationally recognised Baldridge Business Excellence Criteria. Judges provide comprehensive feedback offering businesses insights into focus areas and opportunities to help strengthen and develop their organisation. Bike Northland were finalists in two categories of the Northland Business Awards, Best Not for Profit and Small Business Award.

The judge’s feedback was very positive noting that the application was very “clear, comprehensive, and well-presented”, that the strategic strands were clearly developed and articulated, and Governance appeared robust and effective.

The Community Impact Award was a new award developed to recognise and celebrate industry excellence within Northland’s play, active recreation, and sports sector. The award was part of the annual CONBRIO Northland Sports Awards held in March 2022.

The purpose of the award was to identify, celebrate, promote and encourage collaborative community projects which have a positive impact on the community through play, active recreation, and sport.

Bike Northland was a finalist with the development of the Pohe Island Bike Park.

The Bike Park development started in late 2020, and at the time of award applications, January 2022, several key components were open to the public. Specifically, the Velosultions designed and built Pump Track, the 800-meter Circuit Track, the car park, and a large flat asphalt area safe for learners to use away from traffic and pedestrian routes. The Bike Park attracted many users over the summer months of all ages and wheel sizes including bikes, scooters, skateboards, and roller blades. Bike Northland has continued to work with the community throughout the build to ensure as many users’ needs are accommodated as possible. Great effort has been made to ensure that the park is accessible to everyone.

More information about the Bike Park can be found on the relevant page of the Bike Northland website.
